Handwara Gunfight: Two Senior Indian Army Officers has been Killed along with A Sergeant at Chenjmohalla Forest Area during an encounter with freedom fighters in Kashmir.

A colonel, a major and a Sergeant among those who were killed on May 2, 2020, during the gunfight with freedom fighters in Handwara, Jammu and Kashmir, Indian media reported this evening.

Reliable sources said that soldiers from 21 Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police conducted a search operation inside the forest area to track down the hiding freedom fighters (Militants according to Indian media).

Sources added that an encounter started with the freedom fighters and there was a massive exchange of fire, that continued for hours together. Sources said that a group comprising, army and policemen that was led by Commanding Officer 21 RR headed towards the spot where freedom fighters were present.

With the lull, the reinforcement party lost contact with the Commanding Officer and others who were accompanying him.

“From past 4 hours we contacted the missing officer and those who accompanied him, but there was no response,” an official on condition of anonymity said.

Later on, Indian media reported that 3 Army personal (Including 2 senior Army officers) has been killed during the gunfight.

Local citizens of Handwara town shared multiple videos of a gunfight which shows dozens of Indian Army Soldiers hiding cowardly beside the road while the exchange of fire continues.

Meanwhile, citizens reported from Chenjmollah area of Rajwar Handwara Occupied Kashmir Kupwara District that Indian Army has cut internet and restricted information sharing.
